A Colorado Springs police spokesperson doesn't mince words when it comes to Victor and Rhianna Matthews. "Heroes," she calls them. Victor and Rhianna Matthews deny the flattering allegation, saying they're just normal people who were in the right place at the right time.

The couple and their two children, ages 9 and 10, were in downtown Colorado Springs for a quick run to Kinko's when they spotted him -- a man matching the description of a man at the center of an Amber Alert for 9-year-old Calysta Cordova, believed abducted from Pueblo the prior afternoon. Rhianna spotted the man as he walked into the 7-Eleven at Tejon Street and Pikes Peak Avenue. "It has to be the guy," Victor said he remembers Rhianna saying. "With the hoodie, the shirt, the shoes, the baggy shorts -- everything was perfect," he said.

Victor then called 911, alerting Colorado Springs police to the man at the center of a statewide search. The man who entered the 7-Eleven then came out with a beverage he had purchased, coming within five feet of Victor as he remained on the line with 911. "He was just by himself and nonchalant," Victor said. "Like, we really need to get the cops over here because if they see this guy and talk to him and if happens to be the guy, then this is going to solve a huge problem." Victor says he and Rhianna feared what might happen if they didn't take immediate action. "If he's going to the bus station and he gets a bus out of here, who know's what's going to happen next?"

Within minutes of Victor's 911 call, police arrived at the downtown bus terminal and took Jose Garcia into custory without incident.

"It's really important for people to pay attention because anybody could spot that guy," Victor said. "He was just walking downtown like nothing was going on." He says the entire ordeal should serve as an example to all parents and children. "If the kids learn from the little girl and the adults learn from just paying attention and listening, then we could solve these problems faster all the time."

The huge banner outside the Cordova home in Pueblo says it all---Welcome Home! Calysta Cordova and her family came back to Pueblo Friday evening, after a 24 hour nightmare.

The 9 year old did not come home from school at Columbian Elementary Thursday afternoon. After an extensive search late into the evening, an Amber Alert was issued.

Police say she ended up at a Colorado Springs Circle K store with her kidnapper and managed to ask to use the phone. She called 911 and witnesses say police arrived within in seconds.

One witness told us she had black eyes and a large bruise on her cheek. He says she told him she would not go with the suspect and was going to wait for her mother. The suspect took off once he realized she called 911.

Police later caught up with him at the downtown bus terminal. Jose Garcia was set to be booked into the Pueblo County Jail Friday night.

Witnesses who were waiting for a bus at the Colorado Springs Metro Terminal downtown say they watched a man being arrested who matched the description of Jose Garcia, 29, the lone suspect wanted in connection with the kidnapping of a Pueblo girl.

At a joint news conference later in the afternoon, the Colorado Springs Police Department and FBI confirmed that Garcia had been taken into custody.

News 5 arrived at the Metro terminal shortly after 1:00 p.m. and found several police cruisers on scene. A man was detained in the backseat of one of the vehicles. However, the officers drove away shortly after our arrival.

Tia Martinez watched the arrest. She remembers a man matching Garcia's description walking north on Nevada Avenue near the terminal when an officer confronted him. She says the man was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black coat. He seemed to be avoiding eye contact.

"He kept his head to the ground, he didn't want to look at anyone, he was just walking and he had his hood over his head like he was trying to hide his head, or hide his face," Martinez said.

She says the officer asked the man for identification and after he provided it he was handcuffed.

"Next thing you know the whole place was flooded with cops," Martinez recalled.

"I didn't see the first police car but I saw the second one come up," said Johnny Fetz who also witnessed the arrest. "I saw that they started searching him and got him in the car and everything and then five more cops came."

We showed Garcia's drivers license photo to Fetz and Martinez and they both confirmed that he was the man they watched be arrested. When we informed them that he was suspected of kidnapping and assaulting 9 year old Calysta Cordova from Pueblo, Martinez was shocked.

"It sent chills through my body, that was insane," she said.

Police confirm suspect, 29-year old Jose Garcia, is in custody.

Colorado Springs police have taken the Amber Alert abduction suspect, 29-year-old Jose Garcia, into custody at the main City bus terminal at Kiowa and Nevada streets.

Garcia is suspected in the abduction of 9-year-old Calysta Cordova yesterday in Pueblo.

Cordova fled a vehicle when it stopped at the Circle K gas station near I-25 and Woodmen at Commerce Center Drive just before 9 a.m. this morning.

Police say they know the name of the man they are searching for regarding the abduction of a 9-year-old Pueblo girl who was found this morning in Colorado Springs.

Officers say their suspect is Jose Garcia, he is a hispanic man about 5 ft. 7 inches tall. Garcia was last seen wearing baggy shorts with long white socks, and possibly carrying a black jacket. He left the area of Woodmen and I-25 on foot, but officer believe he may have been picked up by an unknown vehicle.

Garcia is wanted in connection with the abduction of Calysta Cordova. The 9-year-old disappeared Thursday afternoon after leaving her school in Pueblo. She was found this morning in Colorado Springs and is now being treated for unknown injuries.

Colorado Springs police continue their investigation into the abduction of 9-year old Calysta Cordova from Pueblo.

Cordova escaped from a vehicle that stopped to gas up at this Circle K station at Woodmen Road and Commerce Center Drive near I-25.

Police initially had a suspect in custody, but then released him and continue to look for an Hispanic male with a shaved head, possibly driving a grey pickup truck or white Mercedes.

Calysta Cordova, the 9-year Pueblo girl who was the subject of the Amber Alert, has been recovered safely.

Shortly before 9 a.m., Colorado Springs police received a call that a girl had fled a vehicle which stopped for gas at the Circle K station at Woodmen and Commerce Center Drive near I-25.

Police say the girl fled into the Circle K station and the clerk called authorities.

Cordova reportedly has injuries and has been taken to the hospital but extend of her injuries is unknown at this time.

Police questioned one suspect, then released him and are still searching for a another suspect and a vehicle that could be a white Mercedes or grey pickup.

UPDATE: Calysta Cordova was found this morning in Colorado Springs.

In the past year there have been several stranger alerts and one child kidnapping in Pueblo. Now, police are looking for a missing 9-year old girl, Calysta Cordova, who was last seen leaving Columbian Elementary School on Thursday. An amber alert has been issued for the missing child.

In the most recent stranger encounters in Pueblo, none of the suspects were found.

In May, a 10-year old boy was kidnapped from Cesar Chavez Academy in Pueblo. Police said the boy was waiting for a ride when a stranger in a gray four-door car pulled up and convinced him to get inside. The man drove for several miles and eventually pulled over in a rural area northwest of Pueblo. The boy got out of the car and ran away. He was found safely two hours later. The suspect was never found. He was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, driving a newer silver or gray sedan with tinted windows.

In October, Pueblo Police issued a warning to parents about two men who were accused of flashing students as they walked home from school. Investigators told us in one instance, a man pretended to be looking for a lost puppy. When the child would approach the car, he would expose himself. Police said this happened several times at schools on Pueblo's east and south sides. No arrests were made. One of the suspects was described as a white or Hispanic, in his 30s, with black hair and possibly facial hair. The other suspect was described as African American with a shaved head. Both were seen driving a white car.

Authorities say it's possible Cordova was seen getting into a white car, perhaps a Mercedes. If you have any information about her whereabouts, you're urged to call 911.

Pueblo Police asking for help from the FBI in the search for missing 9 year old Calysta Cordova of Pueblo.

She is 4'10, Brown hair, was wearing jeans, a black jacket and carrying a black and pink backpack. Call 911 if you can help.

Pueblo Police are searching for a 9 year old girl who failed to return home from school this afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Palmer Avenue where they contacted the girl's mother. She told officers that her 9 year old daughter, Calysta Cordova, did not come home from Columbian Elementary School today.

She described her daughter as being 4'10" tall with long brown hair up in a pony tail. She was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a blue Colombia school uniform shirt. She was also carrying a black and pink back pack.

Police are asking for anyone who may have seen Calysta, to call 911.
