The Department of Veterans Affairs is awarding a grant worth nearly $2.3 million for improvements at the Veteran's home in Walsenburg.

The grant will pay for the expansion of kitchen and dining areas, renovation of bathing facilities and improvements to the energy systems.

"Our successful federal-state partnership helps to provide modern housing in a caring community for Colorado Veterans who have served their country," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.

The V.A. grant will cover 65 percent of the total cost of the project.
