2 Airmen killed in crash on Hwy 94

Two Schriever Airmen have died in a crash on Highway 94 and Blaney Rd near Marksheffel, according to Schriever air force base.  The Colorado Springs Police Major Accident Division said the accident occurred around 6:00am Wednesday, when a blue Scion traveling down Hwy 94 encountered a couch in the roadway.

The driver of the Scion swerved to avoid the couch, broadsiding a pickup truck in the process. Both the driver and passenger of the Scion, Airmen at Schriever Air Force Base, were killed. The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital with a severely broken leg, and is undergoing surgery. The driver is in stable condition.

Colorado Springs Police do not believe that drugs, alcohol, or fatigue were a factor in this crash.

Update: The crash has been cleared from the roadway.  Highway 94 has reopened.  The names of the Airmen are not being released at this time until immediate family have been notified.
