MONTROSE, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors have filed manslaughter and other charges against two men in a fatal motorcycle crash, saying the motorcyclist struck a chain and a rope the men allegedly stretched across a highway to retrieve an elk carcass.
Charges were announced Friday, six months after the Oct. 12 death. Authorities declined to discuss the delay.
In a news release, the Colorado State Patrol said 34-year-old Trever Rawson of Fountain died when he struck the line that was stretched chest-high across Colorado 92 in Montrose County.
The charges allege 47-year-old Mark Valdez of Delta and 43-year-old Kevin Keener of Anton were using the line to drag the elk toward the highway with a pickup on the opposite side.
Valdez didn't immediately respond to a phone message. No number could be found for Keener.
