The NBA playoffs aren't the only basketball in May. USA basketball assembled the best high school girls in the country at the Olympic Training Center over the weekend.
Two Colorado Springs products are among the 46 remaining at the under-17 national team trials. Kylee Shook from Mesa Ridge, and Oliana Squires of Sand Creek made it through the three days of tryouts, which was quite a change from what they're used to practicing against.
"The competition is way better. Every single girl out here is good at this point," said Shook after the first practice Sunday. "They're all hustling, it shows that you have to work because there are people better than you so you just got to hustle, do your best, and play you."
"It's been really nerve-racking," said Squires. "I mean, there's a lot of good competition, and you just got to go out and play hard every single time. it's been a lot of fun though."
The team USA U-17 girls play China June 28th.
