A Colorado Springs family is trying to pick up the pieces after a fire Saturday nearly destroyed their mobile home on the 4800 block of Astrozon Blvd.
Fire investigators believe it started when the engine of a nearby RV caught on fire. "When our units got here the majority of the bulk of the fire was on the RV and it was spreading to the house." explains Lt. J.J. Halsey with the Colorado Springs Fire Dept.
The RV was quickly engulfed in flames and the fire moved fast. Neighbors like Clifton Posey were worried the blaze would spread to other homes. "The fire climbed up on the fence towards the next house." he says, "We didn't know if it was going to spread or not."
Crews were able to quickly get the flame out before other homes were threatened. One of the family dogs died at the scene. The other was revived by firefighters but later died at the vet's office. The damage estimates are around $50,000 not including the RV.
