2 rescued, 1 missing in Montana avalanche

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Police say an elderly man and an 8-year-old boy have been found alive after an avalanche destroyed a house in the western Montana city of Missoula, but a woman is still missing.

Police Sgt. Travis Welsh says the man and the boy were taken to a hospital after the Friday avalanche. Their conditions weren't known, but Welsh says the man was talking with rescuers.

Welsh says the man and the missing woman lived in the home that was destroyed, but police don't know if the boy lived there.

A natural gas leak has also been reported in the area.

The avalanche struck at about 4 p.m. in a northeastern Missoula neighborhood at the foot of Mount Jumbo.
