In a year where video game hype was at a fever pitch there was no end to the innovative offerings that were rolled-out.
From action adventure to sports to stuff for the entire family, this year's crop of games will be best remembered for their creativity and cinematic flair.
While 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Two' got a good deal of the headlines, several other blockbusters delivered in Oh-9, with style and storylines rivaling Hollywood movies.
Two of the best were sequels that upped their game as 'Uncharted 2: Among Thieves' was a critic and fan favorite. 'Assassin's Creed Two' improved on the original by leaps and bounds, offering up some of the most stunning environments we've ever witnessed.
'DJ Hero' dropped some science as perhaps, the most innovative music game yet, while a Heavy Metal revival lead by Jack Black cranked it up to 11 for the highly-imaginative 'Brutal Legend."
In the sports realm Best Game contenders include both 'Fight Night 4' and 'UFC Undisputed' while 'FIFA 10' continues to extend its popularity. But for a sim that plays true to the game 'NHL 10' wins out this season for its controls, strategy and realism.
Sports on the Wii were just the start for what was a solid year of offerings from Nintendo. 'Wii Sports Resort' helped usher in the era of the Motion Plus peripheral. That's explained with an instructional video that looks like something out of a high school health class.
And taking you back to even simpler times, 'New Super Mario Brothers Wii' is a throwback to the best of the early Nintendo games as 2-D worlds scroll along supporting up to 4-players at once.
The game industry isn't slowing down and it'll be exciting to see what's coming next.
