Calls are going out to residents in Monument due to a leaking tanker car on a train. The train is stopped in Monument and hazardous materials crews will have to unload the hydrochloric acid that is inside. The leaking tanker is near Wagon Gap Trail and Elk Valley Trail.
A shelter is being set up at Grace Best Elementary at 66 Jefferson Street in Monument. Residents are asked to prepare to be away from their homes for 48 hours.
There is no wind at this hour, and the current danger from the leaking gas is minimal, but emergency crews are worried about process of moving that chemical from one tanker to another.
