33 arrested in Front Range over drug crimes

DENVER (AP) - Federal prosecutors say officers throughout the Front Range have arrested 33 people indicted over drug trafficking crimes.

Prosecutors say three people were still at large Thursday afternoon, and five others were already in custody on unrelated charges.

Earlier this week, federal prosecutors obtained three indictments charging two unrelated drug trafficking organizations. The first indictment charged 19 people with cocaine and crack cocaine trafficking crimes. Prosecutors say many of the suspects are affiliated with a local violent street gang. Two more indictments charged a total of 22 people with cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking crimes.

Two defendants also face federal firearm charges.

Investigators say the methamphetamine was trafficked from Mexico to Colorado through California, with some of the methamphetamine arriving in Colorado in liquid form to be crystallized in the Denver area.
