The Department of Defense announced Wednesday that 3,300 soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, from Fort Carson will deploy to Afghanistan next summer. Their mission will be the ongoing training and mentoring of Afghan National Security Forces.

The announcement comes one day after the bodies of six Fort Carson soldiers killed over the weekend arrived back in the United States.

A troop rotation from Fort Campbell was also announced Tuesday. Those 2,800 soldiers will deploy next spring.

A Public Affairs officer at the Pentagon told News First 5 that no specific rotations home have been announced for Fort Carson troops already in Afghanistan.
