The Custer County Sheriff says a 9 year old boy, who died from a gunshot wound to the head yesterday, shot himself intentionally.
An autopsy was performed on the child's body this morning. The originally thought the death was accidental but the Sheriff says the boy, Cory Schlabach, shot himself on purpose in the right side of the head.
The family tells authorities that Corey was being home schooled by his mom, she says he was struggling with some math homework, got upset and went downstairs; shortly after that they heard a gunshot. The boy was flown to St. Mary Corwin hospital in Pueblo, but was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff says the family has a few guns and the boy actually shot himself with a child sized rifle that belonged to him. No word yet on if the parents are facing any charges.
