A family birthday party nearly turns tragic Friday night

While attempting to attend the birthday party of an ex-girlfriend's sister a man later identified as Michael Lucero was escorted to his car by other members of the party when he caused a disturbance. Shortly after it was learned that Lucero had donned two bullet proof vests and retrieved a pump shotgun.

Police had already been called during the initial disturbance and later learned that Lucero was outside of the home located near 31st and Kiowa Street, carrying the weapon. When Police arrived Lucero had already fled the area but was located by officers of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Officers investigating found the two bulletproof vests as well as Lucero's shotgun. Lucero was taken into custody and is being charged for Possession of Weapons by a Previous Offender.

There were no reports of shots fired or injuries during the disturbance.
