Organizers of an attempt to ban abortions in Colorado say they have enough signatures to potentially put the proposal on a statewide ballot.
Volunteers with Personhood Colorado say they collected almost 80,000 signatures by Friday, nearly 4,000 more than what they need to get their proposal on the state ballot. It would add fertilized embryos to the definition of humans in the state Constitution. A similar measure on the Colorado ballot failed in 2008.
The Colorado Secretary of State's office still needs to review the signatures to determine whether they can be counted.
A group opposing the measure, Protect Families Protect Choices, says they believe the measure will fail again.
