Academy hosts aviation camp for teens

Three dozen high school sophomores and juniors from across the country are in Colorado Springs this week to attend a three day Teen Aviation Camp at the Air Force Academy.

The students will be building gliders, attending briefings about the Air Force and the Academy as well as taking rides in a Cessna.

They were selected from a field of 200 applicants based on their grades and an essay describing why they want to attend. Most expressed an interest in the Air Force and some said they want to eventually attend the Academy after high school.

This is the 12th year the Academy has held the camp. It's sponsored by the Air Force Services Agency and applicants must have a parent who is either currently serving or has previously served in the Air Force or Air National Guard.
