Accused kidnapper Jose Garcia made his first appearance in court today via a video advisement.
Garcia was wearing a suicide gown which the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office says is a preventative measure. Garcia is also being held alone in a jail cell for his safety. Garcia is facing a charge of second degree kidnapping and sexual assault by a person in a position of trust.
Garcia is accused of kidnapping a 9-year-old Pueblo girl on Thursday. The child escaped and called 911 at a convenience store in Colorado Springs. Capt. Rich Goddard confirms detectives with the Pueblo Police Department are actively investigating another criminal case involving Garcia. Garcia's ex-girlfriend has accused Garcia of fondling her child the same day the other girl was kidnapped.
Garcia is scheduled to be back in court on Jan 30. He remains in custody at the Pueblo County Jail.
