The Colorado Department of Health is recommending that adults who will have contact with infants in the near future, get a vaccination against pertussis, commonly called whooping cough.

Colorado is among several states that have seen a notable increase in the number of pertussis cases reported this year.

The state health department recommends people who are caring for an infant or are a member of a household with an infant, should be vaccinated. This includes

  • all adult infant care providers including adults age 65 and older
  • under-immunized pre-adolescents (ages 7-10 years)

People should contact their pharmacy, health care provider's office or local public health agency for vaccinations.
