AFA to host community 4th of July celebration

The Air Force Academy has invited the community to a family-oriented evening of games, music and fireworks on July 4 to celebrate the nation's birthday.

Events start at 4 p.m. that day on the Academy athletic fields, with numerous games, displays, and food vendors. Water and portable restrooms will be provided.

Music will be provided by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, 6:30-7:45 p.m., and the Air Force Academy Band, 8:15-9:30 p.m.

The fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m.

Visitors can bring cameras, lawn chairs, blankets, umbrellas, and sealed plastic water bottles. Banned: coolers, barbecue grills, pets other than working service dogs, and fireworks.

Visitors attending the event should enter the Academy through the North Gate, Exit 156-B off of I-25.
