Afghanistan election panel orders runoff

Two months after Afghanistan's presidential election, a date has finally been set for round two.

The country's election commission today ordered a Nov. 7 runoff between incumbent Hamid Karzai and his top challenger, Abdullah Abdullah.

Karzai accepted the fraud panel finding in a press conference and endorsed the runoff.

The chairman of the Independent Election Commission says the commission did not want to "leave the people of Afghanistan in uncertainty" any longer.

President Barack Obama says Karzai has "established an important precedent" for Afghan democracy by accepting the findings of a fraud panel that wiped out a third of Karzai's first round votes.
