Air Force Closes Out Regular Season at Boise State

The Air Force women's basketball team wraps up the regular season this Friday, March 7, when it visits Boise State in a 7:00 p.m. contest.

Series History: Boise State leads, 6-1

Last Meeting: A slow start doomed Air Force, as the Falcons dropped a 77-63 contest to Boise State on Jan. 29 at the Academy. Junior Jimi Blagowsky led four Falcons in double figures, finishing with 19 points, while Keiahnna Engel and Kenna McDavis each scored 15 points for the Broncos.

 

 

Last Time Out...

In its final home game of the season, the Falcons came up short in a 76-62 loss to New Mexico. Junior Jimi Blagowsky registered a game-high 20 points, while sophomore Missy Byrd added 14 points. In addition, senior Camille Thompson, playing in her final game in Clune Arena, finished with 11 points and five assists.

 

 

Scouting the Falcons...

Air Force enters Friday's contest with a 1-26 overall record and 0-17 mark in the Mountain West following its home loss to New Mexico on Tuesday.

 

The Falcons are led by junior Jimi Blagowsky, who is averaging 11.4 points per game, while senior Camille Thompson adds 10.7 points per contest. Meanwhile, Air Force's leading rebounder is sophomore Madeleine Philpot with 4.3 boards per contest.

 

 

Scouting the Broncos...

Boise State currently holds a 16-12 overall record on the season and an 11-6 ledger in the Mountain West. The Broncos are coming off a 75-70 road loss to Nevada.

 

Deanna Weaver leads four Broncos who average in double figures scoring, with 13.4 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game. Miquelle Askew adds 13.0 points per game, while Lexie Der and Yaiza Rodriguez average 10.9 and 10.3 points per contest, respectively.

 

 

Air force in the Mountain West RANKINGS...

Through games of March 4, Air Force ranks ninth in the Mountain West in assists per game (12.89), three-point field goal percentage defense (.340) and three-point field goals made per game (4.3). The Falcons also rank eighth in the league in free throw percentage (.665), three-point field goal percentage defense (.333) and assists (13.0) in conference games only.

 

Individually, junior Jimi Blagowsky ranks 11th in the Mountain West in three-point field goals made per game (1.5).

 

 

Boise State in the Mountain West RANKINGS...

Through games of March 4, Boise State ranks second in the Mountain West in turnover margin (+2.9), while ranking third in three-point field goal percentage (.347). The Broncos also lead the league in three-point field goal percentage (.379) and are tied for first in three-point field goals made per contest (8.2) in conference games only.

 

Individually, Kayla Reinhart leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.437), while Yaiza Rodriguez is ranked sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.397) and is tied for eighth in three-point field goals made per game (1.7). In addition, Miquelle Askew ranks fifth in the league in field goal percentage (.486) and ninth in free throw percentage (.777).

 

 

Cold From Long Range...

In Tuesday's game, Air Force and New Mexico were a combined 1-of-16 from downtown, with the only made three-pointer coming from junior Jimi Blagowsky. It marked the first time this season that an Air Force opponent has been held scoreless from beyond the arc.

 

 

Camille, an assist leader...

After dishing out a team-leading five assists against New Mexico on Tuesday, senior Camille Thompson became one of the top-10 assist leaders in the Falcons' Division I era. Thompson, who now has 174 assists for her career, currently ranks 10th on Air Force's Division I career assist list.

 

 

Falcons in the record books...

Three different Falcons have entered the program's Division I career record books so far this season. Senior Cherae Medina currently ranks second in Air Force's Division I era in career assists with 229, while ranking eighth in career three-point field goal percentage (.299) and 10th in career three-point field goals made (66) and attempted (221). Meanwhile, junior Jimi Blagowsky ranks ninth in career three-point field goal percentage (.297) in the Division I era.

 

In addition, senior Camille Thompson now ranks fourth in the Falcons' record book for career games played with 116 and is 10th in career assists (174) at the Division I level.

 

 

Shooting well this season...

The Falcons have two players who currently rank among the top 10 in single-season field goal percentage (Division I era) at the Academy. Sophomore Missy Byrd ranks second on the list with a season field goal percentage of .485, while junior Lindsey Lewis ranks 10th at .437.

 

 

Jimi in the top 10...

With 42 made three-pointers this season, junior Jimi Blagowsky currently ranks eighth on the Falcons' single-season list (Division I era) for three-point field goals made and is tied for sixth in three-point field goal attempts with 140. She also ranks ninth on Air Force's all-time list for three-pointers made and tied for eighth in three-point field goals attempted in a single season.

 

Blagowsky has also entered the Falcons' Division I record book for field goals made (121) and attempted (343) in a single season, ranking 10th and tied for eighth, respectively.

 

 

Next Up...

The Falcons head to Las Vegas, Nev., for the 2014 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship, being held March 10-15, at the Thomas & Mack Center. Air Force, the 11th seed in the tournament, will face sixth-seeded San Diego State on Monday evening in the opening round of the championship. The Falcons' first-round game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. (PT).
