Air Force Drops 13-8 Ballgame To New Mexico

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force baseball dropped a 13-8 hit-fest to New Mexico Friday afternoon at Falcon Field. The two teams combined for 33 hits, including a season-high 16 by the Falcons.

A pair of five-run innings by the Lobos (18-8-1, 7-3) did the Falcons (4-20, 1-9) in despite the hot hitting.

The Falcon offense came out of a recent slump as six hitters had multi-hit games. Left fielder Tyler Jones became the first Air Force player to have a four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Right fielder Coleman Poje notched a career-high for hits, going 3-for-5 with a double, run and RBI.

New Mexico had 17 hits on the day. Third baseman Andre Vigil went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs and shortstop Sam Haggerty went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs.

Air Force starting pitcher Cameron White (1-5) worked 6.1 innings, striking out six in the loss. Bo Wilson, Nathan Stanford and Travis Neubeck closed out the game in relief.

Lobo starting pitcher Jonathan Cuellar (3-1), allowed five runs in six innings, striking four for the win.

New Mexico scored two runs in the second to take an early lead. The Falcons bounced back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

The Lobos then scored five runs in the fourth to jump back ahead 7-4. After AFA came back with a run in the fifth, UNM scored five in the seventh. Air Force scored a run in the bottom of the seventh. The Lobos added a run in the ninth, while the Falcons scored two in the bottom of the inning.

First baseman Seth Kline, second baseman Spencer Draws, third baseman Noah Pierce and shortstop Russell Williams had two hits each for the Falcons. Center fielder David Thomas added a base hit as well.
Game two of the three-game series is tomorrow. First pitch is 1 p.m. MST.
