USAFA, Colo. -- The Air Force men's basketball team earned its seventh postseason appearance in program history when it accepted an invitation Sunday evening to play in the 2013 CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Falcons will play the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors in the first round on Wednesday, March 20. Tip-off time is 7 p.m. Hawaii Time (11 p.m. MT) at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.
This is Air Force's second appearance in the CIT in the last three years and the seventh postseason appearance in the 57-year history of the program. AFA has been to four NCAA tournaments (1960, '62, 2004 and '06; lost in the first round each year) and one NIT appearance (advanced to the semifinals in 2007). Air Force, 4-6 overall in postseason tournaments, advanced to the second round of the 2011 CIT before falling to eventual champion Santa Clara, 88-75.
The Falcons (17-13) finished sixth in the Mountain West with an 8-8 record. They lost to UNLV, 72-56, in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Reese's Mountain West Championships last Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nev.
Hawai'i enters the CIT with a 17-14 overall record. The Rainbow Warriors, who finished fifth in the Big West Conference with a 10-8 league mark, lost to UC Irvine, 71-60, in the conference tournament quarterfinals on March 14.
