The Air Force is trying to trim back; they're asking for voluntary retirements across the board. It would be a reduction of 3,340 airmen; the goal is by September.
Right now the retirements are voluntary, according to the Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs.
Here are the reductions; showing how part of our armed forces is cutting back:
- In Fiscal Year 2012 the Air Force personnel levels were at 332,800.
- For FY 2013 the Air Force is cutting back to 329,460.
For officers the voluntary retirements will be offered to certain year groups and overage career fields. Enlisted members of the Air Force eligible will be airmen who are not in critical specialties.
All applications must be submitted through the virtual MPF by August 1st, 2013. Those approved to retire will have to do so by September 1st, 2013.
