Alamosa fire destroys businesses

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused a fire in Alamosa that destroyed several businesses.

The fire broke out around 7 o'clock last night on Main Street near Poncha Avenue. The Alamosa Fire Department says it started inside a salon. An employee says he saw fire coming from a water heater and it quickly intensified. "We just opened back in April and it was a booming business and we put a lot of money and hard work into this place and now it's gone," said David Nails, an employee at V.I.P. Salon & Spa.

Governor John Hickenlooper was in Alamosa today and wanted to see the damage and talk with owners. "Smaller communities like Alamosa always are impacted disproportionately when you have a fire like this," said Gov. John Hickenlooper.

Firefighters say three of the four businesses are a total loss. "The one at the very end down here had a fire wall in it, that one just got smoke damage. The rest of them are shot. They're totalled," said Tony Bobicki, Deputy Chief of Alamosa Fire Department. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is on scene to look into how it started. No one was seriously hurt.
