The Fountain, a local Catholic shop, is closing its doors due to competition from the online retailer Amazon.com. The store has been operating in Colorado Springs since the 1950's.
Book sales accounted for over 50% of The Fountain's sales; as customers gravitated toward online deals rather than a familiar face, the owner found herself unable to remain financially solvent. "They just don't think about what they're buying off the internet is doing to their local businesses. It is a sad reality; its like its not quite real," Magdalene Green, the owner says. Green has been working at the store for 49 years.
The going-out-of-business sale will begin on Tuesday, April 10th.
