Long time postal employee Gil Trujillo is under investigation for misusing postal funds. Trujillo has worked at the Pueblo Post Office for 26 years. He is the president of the local postal union, and is also a current member of the Pueblo Library Board of Trustees.
Pueblo Postmaster Bob Podio, reached by News First in Washington D.C. Tuesday morning said Trujillo was put on "emergency placement" status last Thursday. Podio said Trujillo worked primarily as a passport clerk, handling passport applications, as well as in distribution. Podio said the investigation had nothing to do with passports, but rather "pilfering" post office funds.
Podio said the investigation could take three to six weeks.
Trujillo is the fourth Postal Service employee from the Pueblo office to be investigated by the inspector general's office in the past three years. Three other men have recently pleaded guilty to theft of the mail.
