Are minors buying tobacco more or less than before?

Good news for parents, government efforts to keep minors from buying tobacco products seem to be working.

A new U.S. report says fewer youths are buying tobacco products.

In fact, sales of cigarettes to minors are at near record lows.

A government program called the Synar Amendment was initiated 16 years ago to help prevent the sale of tobacco products to those under the age of 18.

Only about 9% of retailers violated the ban on sales to minors.
