Ariz. bill against 'annoying' online to get change

PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona lawmaker behind a bill that would make it a crime to post "annoying" or "offensive" comments on the Internet says he plans to revise the proposal amid concerns from supporters that it is unconstitutional.

The bill aims to update state telephone harassment and stalking laws by adding the use of computers or smartphones.

Supporters say the measure would help victims of online stalking and harassment whose cases have been dismissed in court because of state law.

Critics have called the statute too broad.

Rep. Tim Vogt, a Republican from Tucson, said Wednesday the measure will be updated to make clear it does not conflict with free speech protections in the U.S. Constitution.

Vogt says supporters of the measure had expressed concern that it could be struck down.
