Army Corps weighing whether to blow a hold through Missouri levee

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it's still weighing its options amid concerns that a rising Mississippi River could flood Cairo, Ill.

But it's moving barges loaded with explosives closer to a levee downstream from the small town. A federal court has cleared the way for the Corps to blow a hole in the levee to try to prevent flooding in Cairo, Ill.

But the breach could also inundate about 130,000 acres of Missouri farmland.

The state of Missouri had asked the court to block the agency's plan, but the court rejected the request.
