Christian Cunningham, 19, has been arrested and charged with arson under the suspicion of starting a fire in the Culebra Hall dorm rooms Sunday evening.
The campus confirms to News 5 Cunningham is a current student. He's formally been charged with arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
Cunningham was allegedly making fire balls similar to a molotov cocktail when his futon in his dorm caught fire. The smoke activated the fire alarms and sprinkler system.
A CSU Pueblo spokesperson says the majority of damage resulting from the fire is water-related from the sprinklers. Maintenance crews are working to repair damaged ceilings and floors.
Initially, about 200 students were impacted by the fire. CSU says about 60 are still waiting to return back to their dorms. The campus hopes to have all residents back in their rooms by the end of the week.
Cunningham is out on $1,000 bond. He has his first formal court appearance Friday morning.
