Aspen Skiing Co. is expanding who must wear helmets on its mountains.

Starting next season, its roughly 500 salaried employees must wear helmets while working on the slopes, and helmets will be required for ski school students ages 17 and younger, not just 13 and younger.

Terrain park or halfpipe students and instructors teaching someone who must wear a helmet will have to wear helmets too.

Ski patrollers and lift attendants aren't part of the salaried staff.

Last season Vail Resorts started requiring helmets for employees skiing or snowboarding on the job and for children ages 12 and under in ski school group lessons, while Intrawest required them for youth in ski school and students of any age in freestyle terrain parks.
