Aspen Skiing Co. extending 'sunset skiing'

Aspen Skiing Co. plans to keep the chairlifts running a little longer at one of its four ski areas each Friday for spring skiing.

Starting March 18, it plans to keep some limited terrain open at one of its mountains on Fridays until 6 p.m. Aspen Skiing Co. operates Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk and Snowmass.

Aspen typically stops running lifts at 3:30 p.m. and extends that until 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. by mid-March.

Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle tells The Aspen Times that extended skiing on two afternoons last season on Aspen Mountain proved to be popular.

Also new this season at Snowmass is a 12-foot halfpipe aimed at beginners.
