MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) - Bahrain's opposition is asking for U.N. and American intervention as the government cracks down on Shiite protests. In a brief protest at U.N. offices in Bahrain's capital, 18 former legislators appealed for U.N. help to end violence against protesters and mediate talks between the opposition and the Sunni monarchy. They also called on the U.S. to pressure a Saudi-led military force to leave their country.
