Bear bites boy

LEADVILLE, Colo. (AP) - A black bear went into a tent in a central-Colorado campground and bit or scratched a sleeping teenage boy's arm.

State wildlife officials say the boy was camping out with his family in the mountains near Leadville when the bear grabbed him early Friday. Colorado Division of Wildlife spokesman Randy Hampton tells KMGH-TV the boy needed medical care, but his wounds didn't appear to be life-threatening.

Officials say the boy was participating in the Colorado Bow Hunters Association's annual jamboree. Hampton says wildlife officers are interviewing the boy and his family and working on getting tracking dogs to the campground.

If the bear is found, it will be euthanized. Hampton says black bears aren't typically aggressive and it's concerning the beart was brazen enough to go into a crowded campground.
