Bear carcass dumped at Snowmass Village trash bin

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Wildlife officials are investigating after someone shot and killed a black bear and dumped the carcass near a trash bin in Snowmass Village.

Kevin Wright, district wildlife manager with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, tells the Aspen Daily News (http://bit.ly/YN1XlP ) the adult sow was shot twice "at fairly close range," probably last Sunday night. The carcass was tied up in a tarp.

The bear was hit in the lower abdomen and hind quarters, and again in the face and shoulder. Lewis declined to say what caliber of gun was used.
