Bike service saves parking places at local events

The City of Colorado Springs and Mountain Metropolitan's Metro Rides provided bicycle valet parking service at eight events throughout the 2011 summer season and ended up safely parking nearly 900 bicycles.

Bike riders were able to avoid having to find a parking space and could participate worry-free without having to bring a bike lock or carry around helmets or other gear.  They simply parked at a secure volunteer-staffed bike parking lot and then went on to their event.

Popular local events such as Territory Days and the Colorado Balloon Classic draw large crowds and the bicycle valet parking service helps ease congestion and provide travel options for those who want to arrive on two wheels. More bicycle use means less pollution and saves gas.

The City of Colorado Springs and Metro Rides, with the help of dedicated volunteers, will continue to offer bicycle parking valets. Event planners can provide this service at their event next summer by contacting Deb Spinato at dspinato@springsgov.com or call her at 719-385-5276.
