National Bike to Work Day will be celebrated in Pueblo May 21 with bicyclists commuting to and from work and making breakfast stops around town. Colorado Bike to Work Day is June 23, with additional activities scheduled including a Commuter's Cup Challenge between these two designated Bike to Work dates.
"Designated Bike/Walk to Work days are a great way to promote active and environmentally friendly transportation in a fun way with others in our community. We'll have water and light breakfast stops so cyclists and walkers can stop to visit others and feel a sense of community, something you don't feel driving to work alone," stated Kim Arline, Pueblo Active Community Environments volunteer and coordinator of Pueblo's Bike to Work Day events.
The Pueblo Area Bike Route map has been updated and is available online to help interested riders select a route with less vehicle traffic. The maps will be printed soon and handed out at the June Bike to Work day. Several community volunteers will meet others to ride on the sponsored Bike to Work days from different parts of the city.
The following businesses and community organizations are sponsoring breakfast/water stops to encourage healthy lifestyle changes and cheer on participants in Pueblo Friday, May 21 from 6:30am - 9:00am:
Pueblo Community College 900 West Orman Avenue
Pueblo City-County Health Department 101 West 9th Street
