Bill important for all Colorado rafting businesses

Raft vendors from around the state are in Pueblo this week for a convention and trade show. This members only event runs Thursday at the Pueblo Convention Center.

There are more than 50 vendors selling everything from the basics, such as sun screen and life vests, to new rafting tools.

But, the big focus for the convention is House Bill 1188 dealing with rafting liability issues. The Chairman of the Colorado River Outfitters Association says he feels the bill is important for all rafting businesses in Colorado. The bill will ensure rafters are not trespassing down portions of the Taylor River.

"It's about protecting what we feel are existing rights about being able to float on rivers that we have historically run commercially for several years," said Bob Hamel, Chairmen of the Colorado River Outfitters Association.

The bill was introduced to the Colorado House of Representatives judiciary committee and will go to a vote at the state capitol on Monday.
