Blind pole vaulter heading to state meet...really

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A 15-year-old Texas girl who is legally blind is competing for a state championship in the pole vault this weekend. Charlotte Brown of Emory, about 65 miles east of Dallas, says she never considered vaulting with her disability as something special, just something different. Brown started pole vaulting when she was in the seventh grade. She is among the favorites to medal is Class 3A on Saturday. Her qualifying height of 11 feet, 6 inches is second best in her class. Brown is one of at least two legally blind girls competing for pole vault championships this weekend. Aria Ottmueller, 17, of Chandler, Ariz., has also qualified for her state championship meet.
