Boulder wants Supreme Court to stop church growth

Boulder County wants the U.S. Supreme Court consider its dispute with a church that wants to nearly double the size of its 128,000-square-foot campus.

The Daily Camera reports that the county commissioners voted Thursday to press their legal battle with the Rocky Mountain Christian Church near Niwot.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in July that the county violated a federal law when it denied the church's request to expand.

The church said the county violated the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act. County officials say they treated the church's application the same way they would treat any application.

The county has until Oct. 15 to file a petition with the Supreme Court.
