MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis and Colorado Springs battled back and forth Monday night at AutoZone Park before the Sky Sox emerged with a 5-3 victory as the ‘Birds dropped their ninth straight game, matching their season high.
After Memphis tied the game for a second time in the sixth inning on Mark Hamilton's home run to right field, the Sky Sox rallied for a run in the top of the seventh off a sacrifice fly by former Redbird Andrew Brown and another one in the ninth off a sacrifice fly by DJ LeMahieu. Brown led Colorado Springs, driving in three runs on the night while LeMahieu went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Shane Robinson led the ‘Birds in his first game back going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Sky Sox starter Guillermo Moscoso picked up his second win of the year, allowing three runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings while walking one and striking out nine. Edgmer Escalona nailed down his fourth save with a scoreless ninth inning. Memphis starter Joe Kelly took the loss giving up four runs on 11 hits over 6.1 innings while walking one and striking out five.
The ‘Birds wrap up their eight-game homestand tomorrow night with game time slated for 7:05 p.m. Memphis sends Shelby Miller to the bump to face Sox right-hander Rob Scahill.
