CA Salary Scandal Follow-up: How Much Do Your Leaders Earn?

Members of the Bell, Calif. city council voted Monday night to cut their own pay by 90 percent after a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed council members earned nearly $100,000 for their part-time work and the city manager earned a salary of $787,637.
Bell, with roughly the same population as Littleton, Broomfield, and Grand Junction, has a 17 percent poverty rate and the town's median income is less than $35,000. Bell's city manager, assistant city manager, and police chief resigned in the wake of the scandal.
By comparison, city leaders in Southern Colorado earn a fraction of the scandalous amounts earned by their contemporaries in Bell, Calif. Colorado Springs City Council, including the mayor, earn $6,250 per year for their part-time work. The City Manager position earned $210,000 until April 2010, when Penelope Culbreth-Graft resigned. The interim City Manager position pays $181,500.
Pueblo City Council members earn $700 per month, or $8,400 per year. The City Council president earns $900 per month, or $10,800 per year. The Pueblo City Manager's salary is between $155,000 and $160,000 per year.
