It's graduations week at the Air Force Academy, with a long list of events leading up to Wednesday's commencement. President Obama is scheduled as the keynote speaker.
Monday was the Cadet's formal parade; giving seniors leadership, military, academic and athletic honors. All of the cadets, freshmen on up, march in the parade. For the seniors it's something they've done several times, but this one is different.
"You always wonder, 'man, what's it going to be like when we get there?'" says Jon Escamilla; a graduating senior from San Antonio. "Now that it's here it's a different feeling than it is before, as an under classman, because you've finally reached that moment, that grad week, and it's awesome."
Families from across the country are in Colorado Springs for the week's festivities. Esther and Curt Johnson came in from California for their son, Eric's, graduation. Although they say, a bit tongue-in-cheek, it makes them sad that his graduating might cut back on their trips to Colorado, but they're very happy for their son.
"Today is just one of the proudest days that we could ever ask for for Eric, our son, and we just consider ourselves very blessed," says Esther Johnson.
"He always wanted to be a pilot," adds Curt.
They, like the other parents in the crowd, are happy to see their cadet moving closer to his dreams.
Ceremonies continue through Wednesday's graduation.
