In a scene intended to highlight a spirit of cooperation, some 70 dignitaries armed with gold shovels broke ground on the new Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences on the campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
The $18.5 million building located right in the heart of the North Nevada Urban renewal zone will house a mixture of academic and community health services as well as providing a physical space for a future medical school.
The crown jewel of the structure will be the Lane Family Senior Health Center. Operated by partnership of Peak Vista Community Health Centers and the CU Aging Center, the center will provide a whole person approach to caring for seniors in the community. The Gerontology Center, the Trauma Health and Hazards Center as well as clinics housed by the Beth El College of Nursing and Health Sciences will also be run from the 54,000 square foot facility which is projected to open in early 2014.
