Most of southern Colorado's high school football players have hung up the equipment by now. Not Canon City senior quarterback Max Javernick who is this week's "Loaf ‘N Jug High School Athlete of the Week."
Last Saturday Max was 11 for 20 passing for 163 yards and he three two TD passes in Canon City's 17-10 3A quarterfinal win over Windsor. The win advances the Tigers to this weekend's 3A semifinals.
Javernick told News First Five's Jordan Mason, "It's unbelievable. It's a good feeling to be this far and one step closer to the ultimate goal that we have and what we've been working for since last December."
This Saturday Max leads the Tigers into a semifinal game at Glenwood Springs. A win there and it's on to the state championship.
