A car crashed into an industrial-sized gas meter at the Timber Apartments on Airport Rd. in Colorado Springs early Thursday morning, severing the gas line.

Nearby residents were evacuated for a short time, while Colorado Springs Utilities shut off the gas. The gas has been cleared and residents allowed to return to their apartments. Gas service should be restored sometime this morning.

Airport Rd. was closed for a time, but has reopened.

No one was injured.
