A car was stolen outside the emergency room doors in the valet area of Memorial Hospital this morning by a patient.
Officers say they arrested Matthew Nyquest this afternoon after he crashed a stolen car and fled from the scene around 7:30 a.m. this morning at the intersection of Union and Constitution.
They say he was discharged earlier from the hospital, then stole the car, as well as a GPS unit from another car, right in front of the emergency room doors.
Officers were able to identify Nyquest by working closely with Memorial Hospital's security team by reviewing surveillance video from the hospital.
"The suspect, in this case, had actually checked himself into the hospital earlier yesterday. Through that, they were able to get a name and an address for him and went out to the address and actually contacted the suspect," says Sgt. Lance Lazoff.
Nyquest is charged with hit and run, first degree criminal trespass, motor vehicle theft, and various other charges.
Lazoff did not know Nyquest's age.
