A Colorado woman accused of smothering her infant son she says she believes was autistic is facing a trial.
A judge said Wednesday that there's enough evidence for the case against 34-year-old Stephanie Rochester of Superior to go forward.
Rochester is charged with first-degree murder in the June 1 death of her 6-month-old son, Rylan. Police say Rochester said she smothered her son because she believed he was autistic and didn't think she and her husband could handle a disabled child.
The Daily Camera reports that Rochester's attorney suggested during Wednesday's preliminary hearing that the cause of death was ruled asphyxiation instead of something else because of Rochester's statements. Rochester is due to enter a plea Nov. 5.
