BOURG-LES-VALENCE, France (AP) - Mark Cavendish has won the 11th stage of the Tour de France in a mass sprint under a scorching sun, while Andy Schleck of Luxembourg retained the overall race lead.
Cavendish collected his third stage win in this year's Tour on Thursday, a 114.6-mile trek from Sisteron to Bourg-les-Valence that featured one mid-grade climb. The stage was mainly flat and thus favored sprinters.
Schleck earned the coveted yellow jersey for a third straight day by finishing in the closely trailing pack. Defending champion Alberto Contador is second overall in the three-week race, 41 seconds behind the leader.
