The Tigers return to league play for the first time in more than a month this weekend when they travel to Grand Forks, N.D., for a two-game National Collegiate Hockey Conference series against the University of North Dakota.
Faceoff at Ralph Engelstad Arena is 7:38 p.m. CT Friday and 7:07 p.m CT Saturday as the former Western Collegiate Hockey Association rivals also meet for the first time as members of the new NCHC.
While Friday's series opener will be telecast nationally by CBS Sports Network, Saturday's contest will air throughout Southern Colorado on KRDO-TV 13.
Colorado College, 2-13-3 overall after last Saturday's 4-2 loss to Brown University at the World Arena, currently occupies fifth place in the NCHC with a 2-5-3-1 mark in league play.
North Dakota, which split a pair of exhibition decisions at the Great Northwest Showcase in Burnaby, British Columbia, last weekend, is 9-7-2 overall and 5-5 in conference play, good for third place in the NCHC standings. UND fell to the University of British Columbia, 3-2 in overtime, last Friday before rebounding to beat Simon Fraser University by a 4-3 count on Saturday.
The Tigers and North Dakota met 228 times as members of the WCHA, with UND compiling a 139-79-10 overall advantage. CC is 5-10-3 in 18 games at Engelstad Arena and 20-82-6 in 118 all-time appearances in Grand Forks after winning (4-3) and losing (5-3) there in their last trip the weekend of Jan. 11-12, 2013.
Colorado College prevailed in three of five encounters overall between the teams last season, including a 4-3 overtime victory in the quarterfinals of the WCHA Final Five at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
